New beginnings.

When my ex and I bought our three story Victorian house we moved from a fully furnished one bedroom flat. What you don't consider much in the excitement of the move is what it will be like moving into a much bigger place which is completely empty. We didn't have a table, chairs, sofa, bed or anything much in fact. It was a strange feeling living in this big empty house.

We slept on a mattress on the floor in the spare bedroom because that was the only room with curtains. We watched our TV on pillows propped against the wall because we had no sofa.

And on the day we moved in we toasted our new home sitting on cushions with cardboard boxes as tables for our takeout (we couldn't cook anything as we had no fridge in which to keep food).

Things got a little better when my dad took pity on us and lent us his camping table and chairs.

The table laid for Christmas dinner for two.
At least we had fairy lights and some plants.

But looking back on those days it was all a wonderful adventure. We had so many dreams for what we would do with the house. And what an achievement it felt to finally get on the property ladder.

7 years on I bought my ex out. This year it's a new adventure in a way. All decisions are my own and the work to be done is bigger than ever. I am once again camping in my own home - with rooms completely covered in brick dust and ceilings in pieces.

This journey is starting all over again.
